It is with great enthusiasm that we have expanded to include a lower elementary program for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders (with the hope of expanding to upper elementary in the future).
Montessori education breaks away from traditional, teacher-led, and desk-bound methods by being child-centered and allowing students to choose what to learn, fostering ownership and engagement. It provides an environment where children can freely move, explore, and engage in sensory-based learning, tailoring the curriculum to each child’s needs and pace. This individualized approach ensures that students can focus on mastering concepts without being rushed or held back, while also incorporating necessary group activities.
In Montessori classrooms, mixed-age settings allow students to work at their own pace, with older students guiding younger ones, fostering a strong community. Students stay with the same teacher and peers for at least three years, promoting deep relationships and a stable learning environment. This continuity enables a personalized educational experience where friendships and community deepen, supporting a seamless and integrated educational journey.
Our Montessori curriculum goes beyond state standards, allowing students to advance as far as their understanding takes them. For essential skills like telling time, measurement, and punctuation, students participate in group lessons tailored to their grade. These sessions are open to students from different grades who may need extra help, ensuring everyone masters these key concepts. This approach balances individualized learning with group instruction, ensuring comprehensive exposure to important standards.
Lastly, a cornerstone of Montessori education is its largely technology-free environment. We believe in providing children with a space free from screens, where they can connect with the world through hands-on and real-world activities. Our philosophy on technology is “creating, not consuming.” For our older students, we introduce computer basics like PowerPoint and other tools that enhance the Montessori curriculum and life skills, fostering new learning opportunities.
